Where do grey-market sellers get your stock?

They are not counterfeiters. They bought it from someone, and that is exactly the problem.

Two bites: how it works1 min readAll Protect bites

Grey-market sellers offer genuine product without authorisation. The stock comes from somewhere real: a distributor quietly over-ordering, clearance and liquidation lots, retail promotions bought in bulk, or cross-border arbitrage where your product is cheaper in one market and flipped into another.

Because the product is genuine, intellectual property complaints usually fail. Amazon does not enforce your distribution agreements, so takedown attempts against authentic stock mostly burn credibility.

The durable fix is upstream: tighter distribution agreements, coherent pricing across channels so arbitrage stops paying, and serialisation so a test buy tells you exactly which partner’s stock is leaking. On the platform itself, the game is winning the Buy Box back with price discipline and availability rather than whack-a-mole.

Reading about it is the slow way.
