What do new-to-brand metrics really measure?
The metric that separates real growth from expensive churn.
New-to-brand reporting flags whether an ad-attributed order came from a customer who had not bought your brand on Amazon in the previous twelve months. It is available on Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display and DSP campaigns, and it answers the question efficiency metrics dodge: is this spend acquiring anyone new?
Without it, the trap is invisible. Campaigns harvesting your own brand searches produce beautiful ACoS while acquiring nobody, and the account optimises itself into recycling existing demand.
The practical use is to run different targets for different jobs: tight efficiency on defensive spend, and an acceptable cost per new-to-brand customer on acquisition spend, judged against what a retained healthcare customer is worth over time, not against one order.
